Where does CheckSekolah get its data?+
All school data comes from official Ministry of Education Malaysia sources: the KPM EMIS system for government schools (as at 03 Oct 2026), the SMIPS registry for private and international schools, and e-Prasekolah for kindergartens. Every page cites its source.
Is CheckSekolah free to use?+
Yes. Browsing, searching and comparing schools is completely free, and no account is required. School administrators can also claim and update their listing for free.
What is the difference between SK, SJKC, SJKT and SMK?+
SK (Sekolah Kebangsaan) are national primary schools using Malay as the medium; SJKC are Chinese-medium and SJKT are Tamil-medium national-type primary schools; SMK (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan) are national secondary schools. CheckSekolah lets you browse each type by state.
How do I find a school near me?+
Open schools near me and use your location or postcode: it lists the nearest government schools by distance, with filters for SK, SJKC, SJKT and SMK. For kindergartens, the kindergarten finder lists registered centres in the postcode areas around you. You can also search any school by name at the top of the page, or browse by state.
